OU-Alabama Rematch

The College Football Playoff pairing marks a rematch between two SEC foes. The Sooners beat Alabama 23-21 during the regular season thanks to a stifling defense.

OU’s defense set the tone early with a pick-six by Eli Bowen. The game became a back-and-forth affair during the second and third quarters, but the Sooners’ defense came up big several times during the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

The win helped put OU back as legitimate contenders in the College Football Playoff race after beating Tennessee two weeks earlier. The Sooners would go on to beat Missouri and LSU during the final two weeks, padding their College Football Playoff résumé.

Despite the loss, Alabama rallied in its final two regular season games and would go on to play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. The Bulldogs dominated the conference championship game, beating the Crimson Tide 28-7.

The first matchup between OU and Alabama was in Tuscaloosa, and the Sooners will have home-field advantage during the playoff game.
