Prince William and his eldest son, Prince George, have helped make Christmas lunch for people in need at a homelessness charity in London, Kensington Palace has said.

The visit was particularly poignant for Prince William, whose late mother, Princess Diana, had taken him to the same charity when he was 11 years old, an experience that inspired him to set up a program aimed at ending homelessness.

During the trip to the charity’s centre, named The Passage, Prince George signed the visitor’s book on the same page previously signed by Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 when Prince William was 15 years old.

Wearing aprons, Prince George, 12, and his father worked in the kitchen, placing food in baking trays, while they talked and laughed with the centre’s catering staff, before heading out to lay long tables with napkins and Christmas crackers.

“It was important to The Prince of Wales to share with Prince George the work of The Passage and to spend time volunteering alongside the team,” a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said.

“They both greatly enjoyed meeting staff, volunteers and service users as well as learning more about the charity’s work.”

As well as working to try to stop people becoming homeless, Prince William also champions environmental causes and campaigns for more openness about mental health issues.

Christmas wishes from Harry and Meghan

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also sent out their Christmas wishes on Instagram.

“Happy Holidays! From our family to yours,” Meghan captioned her post.

The photo features the family standing on a small bridge over a stream, reportedly in their garden in California.

Last week, the Prince and Princess of Wales also shared their family Christmas wishes on Instagram.

The couple shared a photo of the family smiling in a garden together last Spring, captioned, “Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas”.

Prince William and his family are expected to spend Christmas at Sandringham estate with King Charles, whilst Prince Harry and his family are expected to remain in California.
