GARY HETHERINGTON believes London Broncos could be one of the teams invited to Las Vegas’ rugby league exhibition weekend in the near future.
Hetherington left Leeds Rhinos after three decades at Headingley at the end of the 2025 Super League season to take up the challenge as a director at London.
Under new owners Darren Lockyer and Grant Wechsel, the Broncos are aiming for the top very soon, having missed out on a place in an expanded 14-team competition for 2026.
However, Hetherington, Lockyer and Wechsel have ambition rarely seen before in the capital, and, having gone to the Las Vegas extravaganza this year, Hetherington believes the Broncos could well become a force to be reckoned with in a short space of time.
And that, Hetherington feels, could see the Broncos turn out in Sin City.
“I would like to think so,” Hetherington told the League Express podcast.
“I went to Las Vegas for the first time this year and I was fascinated by it. I came back and did a report for the Leeds Rhinos board and said ‘we need to be there’.
“It’s a big stage, it’s a great stage and a great city. It’s such a different city in many respects but an enjoyable one.
“For rugby league to be the centre of attention in that city – albeit for a limited period of time – with the NRL, Super League and all the fans mingling with great crowds and stadium, it is a great example of how rugby league can captivate a new audience and actually expand its profile in a different country.
“I would like to think in the not too distant future that London Broncos could be a team playing out in Las Vegas.”
