STEPHEN Robertson has secured a new role in motorsport following his exit from PremiAir Racing earlier this year.

Robertson will join Porsche Carrera Cup Australia as a consultant to its technical team.

The veteran was born in Scotland and raised in South Africa, but has now spent over two decades in Australian motorsport.

He was a core part of Triple Eight’s early Supercars success between 2004 and 2012, and also worked in Supercars’ technical department and as a project manager at Grove Racing prior to joining PremiAir in 2023.

Robertson led the Peter Xiberras-owned squad until May, exiting as part of a planned departure that included the poaching of Peter Vale from Matt Stone Racing.

The consulting role marks a reunion for Robertson and the brand, having served as the sporting and technical manager for Porsche Motorsport from 2015 to 2021.

“I’ve had long ties to Porsche and it’s going to be good to be back in the paddock with people I know and a product I’m very familiar with,” Robertson said.

“I left the Supercars world to slow down a little bit and then focus on building my contract business and this has been a well-timed opportunity, I think for both of us.

“There’s a great crew working at Porsche Motorsport and my role will be to support the competitors and the customers and instil even more confidence in the product we have, and to help verify the good work that has already been done.

“I’m looking forward to working with Craig and the team moving forward.”

Robertson’s role will focus on race meeting technical compliance and support to allow Jesse Hammond, the current motorsport sporting and technical manager, to focus closer on the sporting side of the championship while increasing trackside customer service and support.

“Stephen’s experience in the championship and his knowledge of both the Type 992 GT3 Cup Car and the teams involved means he will be able to fit straight into his role,” Craig Nayda, Porsche Australia senior motorsport manager, said.

“His addition to our team adds technical depth and allows us to better provide a service to our customers, teams and drivers to ensure the championship operates at the level expected.

“We welcome Robbo back to the Porsche family as we continue to showcase the premier one-make category in Australia.”

Robertson begins his consulting role at Queensland Raceway next weekend when Porsche Carrera Cup Australia supports Supercars at the Ipswich Super 440.
