The Perth Bears have delivered themselves a significant Christmas boost, securing the signature of Sean Russell on a four-year deal as the club continues to build towards its inaugural NRL season.

The 23-year-old Parramatta Eels outside back becomes the latest player to commit to the Bears’ long-term vision, adding proven NRL experience and valuable versatility to Mal Meninga’s growing roster.

A product of Windsor, Russell has already featured in 61 NRL matches, crossing for 24 tries at the top level. While best known for his athleticism and finishing ability out wide, Russell also brings an underrated skillset that looms as crucial for a new franchise — goal-kicking. During the 2025 season, he converted at an impressive 71 per cent, providing Perth with another reliable option off the tee.

Russell has also been a dominant force at reserve-grade level, scoring 23 tries in just 32 NSW Cup appearances for the Eels, underlining his consistency and attacking upside.

His signing caps off a busy month for the Bears, who have wasted little time assembling the foundations of their squad. Earlier commitments from Toby Sexton, Harry Newman, Liam Henry, Izack Fa’asuamaleaui, Luke Smith and Emarly Bitungane have already given Perth a strong mix of NRL experience, youth and upside.

With Russell now on board through to the end of the decade, the Bears continue to signal their intent to be competitive from day one — and not merely make up the numbers when they enter the competition.

For a club still years away from running out for its first NRL kick-off, Perth’s recruitment drive is already shaping as one of the most intriguing storylines in the game.
