Jhye Richardson is poised to play his first Test match in four years, picked in a 12-man Australian squad for Boxing Day.

The Test career of Usman Khawaja also lives on, with selectors dropping West Australian Josh Inglis in a series of sweeping changes, despite holding an unassailable 3-0 lead in the Ashes.

Australia will pick four frontline quicks and will snub a spinner, leaving Todd Murphy on the sidelines after Nathan Lyon was ruled out for the series with a hamstring injury.

Michael Neser, Brendan Doggett and Richardson have all joined Steve Smith as inclusions in the squad that won in Adelaide last week.

They will pick two from that fast-bowling trio to partner Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc on a wicket stand-in captain Smith described as “furry” with 10mm of grass.

Under-pressure all-rounder Cam Green will move to No.7 after batting at No.5 in Adelaide and that spot will be taken by Khawaja, who made 82 and 40 at Adelaide Oval to revive his Test career.

More to come…
