AIR Warriors overcame a tough challenge from Nigeria Customs to win 64-56 at the ongoing Zenith Bank 2025 Women’s Basketball Premier League in Abuja.
The match was part of Phase One of the Premier League, taking place at the indoor hall of Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
Nigeria Customs started strongly, dictating the game’s pace and showing composure both in attack and defence to claim the first quarter 25-22.
In the second quarter, the Customs ladies extended their lead, scoring 12 points to Air Warriors’ 11, ending the half at 47-34.
Air Warriors came out fighting in the third quarter, showing resilience and forcing Customs to play more defensively.
The quarter ended 11-11, narrowing the gap and bringing Air Warriors within two points of Nigeria Customs before the final quarter.
In the last quarter, Air Warriors used strategic tactics to suppress Customs’ momentum and gradually took control of the game.
Their consistent pressure paid off, as they sealed the match with a hard-fought 64-56 victory.
Speaking after the game, Joshua Eneneche, coach of Air Warriors, expressed delight with his team’s performance.
“This is our third win and I’m happy. We came determined to win and the team delivered,” he said.
He praised Nigeria Customs as tough opponents and credited his team’s unity and determination for the result.
“We’ll keep improving and correcting mistakes as the league continues,” he added.
He said the team hopes to surpass last season, when they reached the final eight but couldn’t participate due to unforeseen issues.
In other matches, Royal Aces defeated Kada Stars 88-25, while Titans Basketball beat Nasarawa Amazons 88-43.
Ham Warriors also lost to Plateau Rocks 40-79 in a one-sided encounter.
Air Warriors will next face Royal Aces on Friday at 4 p.m., while Nigeria Customs will play Kada Angels at 12 p.m.
Participating teams include Air Warriors, Titans Basketball, Kada Angels, Plateau Rocks, Royal Aces, Nasarawa Amazons, Ham Warriors, and Nigeria Customs.
The league, which began on Tuesday, will end on Aug. 5 at the indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. (NAN)
