Elina Svitolina and Vitaliy Sachko have become the best tennis players of the year in Ukraine, winning the BTU Awards 2025 readers’ poll.
The season’s recap was announced in the context of their achievements over the year, which brought Ukraine two significant awards on the country’s tennis map.
Svitolina in the current season played 51 matches and earned 36 wins. In April at the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, she won her 18th title on the WTA Tour. She reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and also the semifinals at the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, where she defeated four top-10 opponents.
Additionally, Svitolina helped the Ukrainian national team qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup finals for the first time, securing wins in ties against Poland and Switzerland. In the finals she delivered an important point for our team in the quarterfinal against Spain, defeating Paula Badosa, which allowed Ukraine to reach the semifinals of the team world championship for the first time in history.
Svitolina’s season began at the 27th position in the WTA rankings and ended at the 14th position, as Ukraine’s top-ranked female player.
Profile of the winner and year in review
Vitaliy Sachko this year played 73 matches, winning 42. He twice reached the finals of Challenger series tournaments, four times reached the doubles final at Challenger events, and captured two titles. At the ATP 250 Memphis event, the Ukrainian reached the semifinals – the first Ukrainian to reach this stage since 2007.
Starting the year at 417th in the world rankings, Vitaliy finished it at 169th.
Also in the “Progress of the Year” category, Oleksandra Oliynykova won, having played 80 matches and recorded 59 wins. In the “New Generation” category (players not older than 20) Veronika Podrez won – 50 wins in 69 matches.
These achievements confirm the high level of Ukrainian tennis and its prospects for the coming years.
