It’s been a big, if abrupt, week in sport plus annual festive specials.
Australia has already claimed the Ashes series, but that didn’t deter 1.84m viewers from watching the Boxing Day Test -up 18% year-on-year.
302,000 of those tuned in on 7plus, a record cricket streaming audience, up 114% on last year.
The Fourth Test was over in two days, a feature of this series which no doubt frustrates Seven as much as Cricket Australia.
That said, the Big Bash League drew up to 956,000 on Friday.
The Sydney to Hobart averaged 608,000 for Nine.
In entertainment Carols by Candlelight pulled 1.49m for Nine -up from 2024’s 1.29m- while The Yearly with Charlie Pickering was 667,000 for ABC and Christmas with Delta was 603,000.
On Christmas night the Royal Variety Performance (463,000) battled holiday movies National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (430,000) and Love Actually (402,000).
On Christmas morning both 10’s MTV Greatest Christmas Hits (1.2m in Reach) and ABC’s Rage (926,000 in Reach) drew extraordinary Reach numbers suggesting families opened gifts to the sounds of xmas music.
