Jamie-Lynn Sigler has opened up about the impact her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis had on growing her family with husband Cutter Dykstra.

The 44-year-old actress was answering fan questions about being pregnant with MS during a recent episode of her and Christina Applegate‘s MeSsy podcast.

A woman named Maeve had shared her story, explaining she and her husband already had two kids but wanted at least one more, although now were torn after her diagnosis.

“I can tell you, having been a mum of young kids [while having] MS, I see your pain and your struggle. It is very difficult,” Sigler started.

“Setting boundaries, asking for help, getting support, advocating for yourself, these things take time.”

Sigler explained that she “felt a bit of remission” during her first pregnancy with Beau, who is now 12, but not so much during her second pregnancy with Jack, seven.

But she explained that ultimately, her MS battle led her and Dykstra to decide not to expand their family and have a third child.

“Cutter and I really decided fully not to have another child because I just knew at that point with my MS that I wouldn’t be able to take care of the baby independently, the way I wanted to, and the way I was able to with my boys,” she said.

But she reassured Maeve, and anyone else who was in a similar situation with their health, that it was only her family’s decision, and every family is different.

“You have your hands full, it sounds, with two-year-old boys and three kids,” she said.

“But I don’t think you should ever let MS stop you from big things like that.

“Like, if you have the calling of wanting another child, you’ll figure out a way. One thing I think MS gives you is the ability to adjust and figure out another way.

“And I have faith that you will.”

Sigler finished by adding, “So sorry you’re going through this. And asking for help and advocating for yourself doesn’t make you weak. Just remember that.”

Sigler was first diagnosed with MS at age 20, but kept it hidden for years until she couldn’t anymore.

The Sopranos star said people would comment on her gait as MS left her struggling to walk.

“Then it became this long series of lies,” she said.

“‘I have a back issue’. ‘I must’ve tweaked my ankle’.

“I got away with it as long as I could until people would be like, ‘Are you limping? Are you OK?'”

Sigler said she brushed it off because she “didn’t know what that would mean” for her to say it out loud and have “everybody know.”

She was also worried she would be fired from the hit show which ran from 1999 until 2007.

After living with the diagnosis in secret for 16 years, she finally went public with it in 2016, sharing the news of her health for the first time.

She and fellow multiple sclerosis battler Applegate started their MeSsy podcast in 2024.
