CHAPEL Hill, N.C.  – Head coach Brian Kalbas and the University of North Carolina women’s tennis program announced the addition of Maddy Zampardo to the team Friday afternoon. The Detroit, Mich., native is set to join the Tar Heels for the 2026 spring season.

Zampardo heads into her junior year at Carolina after previously competing the past two seasons at NC State. Throughout her time at NC State, Zampardo was a consistent, competitive piece in both the singles and doubles lineups for the Wolfpack.

As a freshman, she was named Second Team All-ACC in doubles after posting a team-leading 34-10 overall and 8-2 ACC record in doubles play with her partner. Zampardo was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week after two ranked wins. She also appeared in the NCAA Doubles Championships. During her freshman campaign, Zampardo compiled a 31-12 overall record in singles and tied for the most ACC singles wins after going 10-2 in league play.

In the 2024-25 season, Zampardo competed in the one position with her partner Gabriella Broadfoot, where they compiled a 16-5 doubles record during the regular season. The duo also earned back-to-back ACC Doubles Team-of-the-Week honors and consistently ranked in the top 10. In the fall, Zampardo became an ITA All-America after winning the ITA All-American Doubles Championship. In singles, Zampardo recorded a 15-6 overall record.

Prior to college, Zampardo was a blue chip recruit and ranked as high as No. 7 in her recruiting class. She was also the top-ranked recruit out of Michigan in the class of 2023.
