THE lure of Mount Panorama has seen a 25-year-old man nabbed at 99km/h over the speed limit at the famed circuit.

The incident occurred at around 1:30pm on Boxing Day, when officers from the Chifley Police District, undertaking routine patrols, clocked the motorcyclist at 159km/h in the signposted 60km/h zone.

The rider was charged with riding a class A motor vehicle recklessly/furiously or at a speed/manner dangerous, and with exceeding the class A motor vehicle speed limit by more than 45 km/h.

He was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear at Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.

The incident was one of the headline incidents from the New South Wales Police’s Operation Christmas and New Year 2025 traffic safety campaign, which over a 17-day period saw 40,875 infringement notices issued.

Outside of race weekends, the general public can lap the Mount Panorama Circuit, with police often keeping a close watch on motorists.

In May last year, a learner driver in a Mazda was clocked at 149km/h on the circuit.

Motorcycle racing was once a mainstay of Easter competition in Bathurst, with the last two-wheel event on The Mountain contested in the year 2000.
