President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk appear to have repaired their strained relationship following a private dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida over the weekend.
Musk shared a photo on X on Sunday showing himself seated with Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, writing, “Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing!” The dinner reportedly took place Saturday evening.

The meeting comes months after a highly publicised fallout between the two men. Musk, who spent millions supporting Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign, previously served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from January until May 30, 2025, when his special government employee contract expired.
DOGE faced heavy criticism during Musk’s tenure. In February, more than 20 civil service employees resigned in protest, stating they would not use their technical skills to “dismantle critical public services” or compromise government systems. Their joint resignation letter was sent to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Following his departure, Musk openly criticised Trump’s flagship tax and spending legislation, the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” measure. The dispute escalated when Musk briefly accused Trump on social media of being linked to the Epstein files — a claim he later deleted. The White House dismissed the episode as “unfortunate,” attributing Musk’s remarks to frustration over the legislation.
Trump responded at the time by suggesting Musk was upset over the removal of electric-vehicle incentives and threatened to reconsider federal contracts and subsidies tied to Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX.
Despite the earlier tensions, signs of reconciliation emerged later in 2025. Trump and Musk were seen shaking hands at a memorial service in September, and Musk attended a White House dinner in November alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Mar-a-Lago dinner has fueled speculation that their political and personal relationship may be back on track. Social media users reacted quickly to Musk’s post, with some welcoming the apparent truce and others expressing skepticism about a renewed alliance.
