At the moment, Hugo Ekitike looks like a major doubt for Thursday’s game at Arsenal.

The understanding is that it won’t be a lengthy injury but Liverpool simply don’t want to risk Ekitike, especially with Alexander Isak out and Mohamed Salah away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Arne Slot said that Ekitike hasn’t trained this week so any involvement in the game tomorrow will depend on how Ekitike comes through in training today.

The task against Arsenal will be even tougher without Liverpool’s top scorer, with Slot describing Mikel Arteta’s side as the “complete package” and full of praise for the league leaders.

But Liverpool did beat them at Anfield earlier in the season and Slot insisted that his side have the talent but have lacked the consistency this season.

That said, Liverpool could make it 10 games unbeaten if they avoid defeat tomorrow – even if the performances haven’t caught the eye.

Slot admitted that he finds it “hard” to hear fans calling out his style of play and that he wants his teams to play “attractive football”. But in the here and now, such an unbeaten run can only be a positive.
