The sixth annual Bryce Pollard Memorial Cricket Match between the Mount Burr cricketers and the Mount Burr footballers is happening on January 17 in the form of a 100 Ball Smash.

The successful format of the past five yearly matches will be followed and the memorial contest will be played at the conclusion of the Mount Burr/Rendelsham “official match”.

All spectators, supporters and cricket lovers are welcome to come and watch the day/night match played under the first-class lights at the Mick and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr from around 6pm.

Tea and full bar facilities will be available at Can Hill with a Pancare fundraising raffle offering many prizes being run throughout the event.

Pancare is also known as the Australian Pancreatic Research Foundation.

Ahead of the first ball, the tragic death from pancreatic cancer in 2019 of 30-year-old Mount Burr sportsman Bryce Pollard will be recalled on this occasion.

It is hoped that some of his former teammates will take part in the cricket match in his memory for the sixth consecutive year.

Known for his exuberant and enthusiastic on-field antics, Bryce represented both Mount Burr sporting clubs each summer and winter and was a popular figure with the Mozzies.

The first such memorial match was played in 2021.

There are some modified rules such as no first ball dismissals known as “golden ducks”.

The actual trophy is the cricket bat once wielded by him and it holds pride of place in the football clubrooms other than this once-per-year occasion.

As before, Bryce’s photo and his cricket gear and football guernsey will be displayed at the Can Hill viewing area.

The game is strongly backed by his mother Sue and other family members.

“Grab your mates, bring a chair or picnic blanket, and join us for a special night of cricket, community, fundraising, and remembering our dear friend Bryce together,” a club spokesman said.

As well as the social side of the event, Mount Burr supporters will have the opportunity to see new and returning Mozzies footballers ahead of the 2026 season which starts in April.
