Championship opportunities arrive when divisions need them most. Nico Carrillo gets his shot at gold with Tawanchai PK Saenchai sidelined.

The Scottish powerhouse dominated at featherweight since moving up from bantamweight. Now he battles Thai knockout artist Shadow Singha Mawynn for the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Title at ONE Fight Night 40.

This goes down on Friday, February 13, inside Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.

The 27-year-old Glasgow native has been near-flawless since joining ONE Championship in April 2023. He demolished Furkan Karabag via third-round TKO before moving down to bantamweight. There, he finished Muangthai PK Saenchai via second-round TKO to earn his six-figure contract.

Carrillo knocked out former ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama and Saemapetch Fairtex. Then he faced Nabil Anane for interim gold at ONE 170 in January 2025.

The loss to the Thai-Algerian skyscraper caused him to reassess his ideal weight class, ultimately returning to featherweight where he’s knocked out Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong and Luke Lessei consecutively.

Shadow Singha Mawynn earns title shot through spectacular run

Bangkok’s Shadow Singha Mawynn entered ONE Championship as a Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion. However, he stumbled in his February 2024 promotional debut. That setback sparked a spectacular five-fight winning streak against elite opposition.

Shadow defeated former ONE World Title challenger Jimmy Vienot, recent contract winner Mohammad Siasarani, and even Sitthichai during his remarkable run. His third-round knockout of Hassan Vahdanirad at ONE Friday Fights 100 in March 2025 earned him his own six-figure contract and global roster spot.

The 25-year-old bounced back from a no-contest against Mohamed Younes Rabah in July 2025 by finishing WBC Muay Thai World Champion Bampara Kouyate with a spinning backfist two months later.

Both him and Carrillo represent the finest contenders in the featherweight division, with the winner earning a unification bout against Tawanchai once the champion recovers.
