EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Stephanie Han, fresh off her victory over Holly Holm, is reflecting on her fight and contemplating her next move in the boxing world.
Speaking to KFOX14/CBS4’s Sports Director Chas Messman, Han, who defended her WBA lightweight world championship, described her win over Holm as one of the highlights of her career.
“Absolutely, Holly Holm, she has such a resume. She’s a UFC champion, plus a world boxing champion, so to defeat her is definitely one of the highlights of my life, absolutely,” Han said.
Reflecting on the fight, Han noted that the first two rounds were evenly matched, but she gained confidence starting in the third round.
“I was more confident in my punches, and I felt like I had the reach, and I was getting the combinations, landing them better than she was,” Han explained.
Hahn’s strategy of being the more active fighter paid off, as she landed 89 punches compared to Holm’s 20-something.
“The ultimate game plan for any fight is to come out victorious, and to throw more punches, and to land more punches,” Han said.
A headbutt during the fight opened a cut on Han’s forehead, leading to a tense moment when doctors considered stopping the fight.
“It hurt, so then I felt the headbutts, and then automatically I could feel the blood dripping,” Han recalled.
Fortunately, the fight went to the judges’ scorecards, and Hahn emerged victorious.
Despite being the underdog, Han was confident in her performance.
“I was just hoping that the judges were gonna be fair, and it wasn’t gonna be political, because Holly was obviously the favorite,” she said.
Looking ahead, Han expressed interest in a rematch with Holm, saying, “If Holly’s up for a rematch, I would love a rematch, hopefully MVP allows that rematch, and hopefully it’s here in El Paso.”
