TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Senior guard Jordan Pope posted a game-high 28 points to lead Texas (10-6, 1-2 SEC) to a 92-88 victory over No. 13/12 Alabama (11-5, 1-2 SEC) on Saturday night in Coleman Coliseum. The win marked the first ranked victory in a true road contest in the Sean Miller era.

Pope converted 8-of-17 field goals, including 6-of-13 from three-point range, and 6-of-6 free throws in 30 minutes. He went 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final 11 seconds to help secure the victory. Graduate Tramon Mark posted 18 points (6-14 FG, 2-4 threes, 4-5 FT), four boards and two steals in 34 minutes, and junior Dailyn Swain added 18 points (7-13 FG), eight rebounds and two blocks in 23 minutes.

Texas took a 7-4 lead after a Mark three-point play at the 17:58 mark, but the Crimson Tide used an 8-0 spurt to grab a 12-7 cushion following a Labaron Philon layup with 16:23 left. Amari Allen hit three free throws to give Alabama a 15-10 advantage at the 14:49 mark, before the Longhorns went on a 9-0 run to build a 19-15 lead after a Mark three-pointer with 12:13 remaining.

The Crimson Tide trimmed the deficit to 29-27 following a London Jemison three-pointer at the 9:41 mark. Texas responded with a 14-5 spurt over the next five-and-a-half minutes to build a 43-32 cushion after a Chendall Weaver layup with 4:15 left. The Longhorns took a 45-34 advantage following a Mark jumper at the 2:59 mark, but Alabama closed the half on an 11-1 run to pull to within 46-45 at the break.

An Aiden Sherrell tip-in brought the Crimson Tied to within 48-47 at the 19:27 mark, before Texas went on a 12-2 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes to increase its cushion to 60-49 following a Matas Vokietaitis hook shot with 15:50 remaining. The Longhorns took a 69-56 advantage after a Camden Heide three-pointer at the 11:27 mark, but Alabama used a 7-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 69-63 following a Philon layup with 10:01 left.

Texas increased its lead to 72-65 after a Lassina Traore free throw at the 8:31 mark, before the Crimson Tide went on a 9-2 run to even the score at 74-74 following an Aden Holloway free throw with 5:41 remaining. Alabama was unable to take the lead down the stretch, as another Traore free throw pushed UT’s advantage to 79-75 at the 3:46 mark.

A Taylor Bow Bowen three-pointer trimmed the margin to 86-85 with 1:14 remaining. The Longhorns answered with a Mark layup in transition with 23 seconds left, and Swain made a huge block with 16 seconds remaining. Pope then converted four-straight free throws in the final 11 seconds to seal the win.

Texas returns to action when it hosts No. 11/10 Vanderbilt on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip is slated for 8 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

This marked UT’s first win in the series in Tuscaloosa (third meeting at Alabama). It marked the first time Texas traveled to Tuscaloosa since Dec. 5, 1970.
The Longhorns improved to 2-3 this season against AP Top 25 opponents. UT previously earned a 102-97 win over No. 23 NC State on Nov. 26 in Maui.
