Romain Grosjean has shared imagery of his reunion with his destroyed helmet that he wore during his horror crash in Bahrain.
Grosjean was involved in an opening lap shunt which saw him pitched into the barrier after contact was made with a rival car.
The Haas challenger was split in two, with the front section of the car spearing through the crash barrier, while the rear instantly erupted into flames.
Grosjean walked away from the crash with nothing more than minor burns to his hands.
In a fresh social media post, the Frenchman showed off the helmet, insisting his kids wanted to understand how he was so protected in the crash.
“Five years after November 29 2020, I got reunited with my race helmet,” Grosjean wrote.
“I didn’t know if I was ready to see it but my kids really wanted to understand how I got so well protected in the fire and what did happen that night.
“I’ll forever be grateful to Bell and Alpinestars for protecting me so well in that moment.
“Life goes and we forget, but that reminds me how much we should make the most of our lives every day.“
