San Francisco and Philadelphia will do battle one more time in the postseason, this time for a chance to advance to the divisional round. The Eagles beat the 49ers in January 2023 in the NFC title game, 31-7. San Francisco bounced back to beat Philly the following December, 42-19. The three meetings between these teams have been played in Philadelphia, with the Niners holding a 2-1 edge.
The 49ers had a rough patch in the middle of the season, going 3-3 following a 3-1 start. Sitting at 6-4 in November, some had begun to write the Niners off. But then the team got Brock Purdy back from injury and reeled off six consecutive wins before dropping the final game of the season to Seattle last week. That loss cost the 49ers the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the playoffs. With the Super Bowl in Santa Clara this year, San Francisco could have potentially played at home for the entire postseason.

Philadelphia won its third NFC East title in four years but also struggled down the stretch. The Eagles went 3-4 from Week 12 on and even lost three in a row during that time before bouncing back to win three straight. Philly closed the season with a loss to Washington due in large part to head coach Nick Sirianni resting starters despite still having a chance to win the No. 2 seed in the NFC.

Brock Purdy completed a 15-yard pass to Demarcus Robinson and 14-yard throw to Jake Tonges, but it’s not enough to get the 49ers to the Eagles’ 44-yard line.
On third-and-5, Purdy ran for 7 yards but fumbled the ball out of bounds. One second was left on the clock. But since Purdy was in bounds when he fumbled, a 10-second runoff ends the first half. No field goal try for the 49ers.
