Australian Open fever is spreading fast, with only days to go until the world’s biggest tennis stars hit the court.

When the matches kick off, so too will the celebrity-spotting – the other ‘sport’ associated with the tournament.

Each year, famous faces descend on Melbourne Park to enjoy the action on court, and it’s been that way for years.

Ahead of the 2026 Open, let’s get nostalgic with some throwbacks to past celebrity sightings at the event.

2004

Delta Goodrem was spotted in the crowd at the 2004 Australian Open, where she cheered on then-boyfriend Mark Philippoussis.

The singer and the tennis star began dating early that year, with Goodrem also supporting her beau at Wimbledon in June. However, the relationship had ended by October.

A new courtside queen emerged at the Australian Open in 2005.

Home and Away star Bec Cartwright had only recently struck up a romance with Lleyton Hewitt, and her numerous appearances at the Open got everyone talking.

Her support clearly went a long way, with the tennis star coming runner-up – and becoming the only Aussie man to advance to the final of his home Grand Slam.

It seems the event was also a turning point for the couple, who announced their engagement six weeks after they began publicly dating.

“By the time of the Aussie Open we both knew we wanted to spend our lives together, and look at us now!” the former actress and pop star told Stellar.

The Hewitts are still regulars at the Open these days, but now it’s thanks to their son Cruz, who’s following in his dad’s footsteps.

Cartwright wasn’t the only famous face at the 2005 tournament.

It seems the game between Hewitt and Andy Roddick on day 12 was especially star-studded.

Late cricketer Shane Warne attended with wife Simone, while late music icon Olivia Newton-John was joined by her niece, fellow singer and actress Tottie Goldsmith.

Neighbours star Stephanie McIntosh was also enjoying the action on court.

2008

It seems the 2008 Australian Open was the date venue of choice for some of our most famous couples.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban – whose split last year shocked us all – looked loved-up as they took their seats on day eight.

The actress and the musician, who met in 2005, had married in Sydney two years earlier.

They announced their separation in late 2025 before finalising their divorce earlier this month.

Also in the crowd at the tournament that year were Jennifer Hawkins and her longtime boyfriend, now husband, Jake Wall.

Hawkins had exploded to Aussie household name status four years earlier when she was named Miss Universe 2004.

2009

Ready for some more cute couple sightings?

They’re happily in love with other people now, but back in 2009, Andy Lee and Megan Gale were together.

The radio presenter and the supermodel dated from 2006 to 2010, having met when Gale appeared on the FoxFM show Lee hosted with Hamish Blake.

Lee is now engaged to Rebecca Harding, while Gale quietly married former AFL star Shaun Hampson in December 2024, only revealing the news to the public a year later.

Also at the 2009 Australian Open were Rebecca Twigley – now Rebecca Judd – and Chris Judd.

The model and the AFL star attended day 14 of the event.

2009 turned out to be a big year for the couple, who went on to get engaged during a trip to Noosa and married in 2010.

Elsewhere at the Australian Open, swimming champion Steph Rice was spotted having a laugh with actress Rachael Taylor.

Two icons (ahem, heartthrobs) of ’90s Aussie TV had a day out at the tennis in 2010.

Daniel MacPherson, who rose to fame on Neighbours, and Callan Mulvey, who stole hearts as Heartbreak High’s Drazic, were spotted on day nine.

There were plenty of famous faces in the crowd in 2011.

Among them was Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, who stood out in the stands with a colourful shirt.

Eric Bana also made an appearance, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given he’s one of the most regularly-spotted stars at the Australian Open.

He was joined by wife Rebecca Gleeson, the couple seated in front of another Aussie screen star, Underbelly’s Vince Colosimo.

Home and Away icon Melissa George – who at this point had made the jump to Hollywood – also enjoyed a day at the tennis in 2011.

He was joined by his now-husband Tim Campbell – the couple married three years later in 2014.

Dannii Minogue also made an appearance at Melbourne Cup for the 2011 tournament.

Meanwhile, actresses Tessa James and Jodi Gordon were joined in the stands by their partners, NRL stars Nate Myles and Braith Anasta.

2012

How cute are these two?

Weeks after announcing their engagement on January 4, 2012, Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster attended the Australian Open quarter-final.

The radio host and the author and beauty writer had been together about 18 months before Blake proposed in late 2011.

They tied the knot in December 2012, and have welcomed two children.

Foster Blake has also moved into the beauty and business sphere, launching her successful skincare brand Go-To in 2014.
