F1 Back at Base (BBC)

Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowden: ‘If you’re serious about Formula 1, you have to start the team – at risk, but you have to start the team. So it’s a really strange process to do, because you’re building up to a full-sized Formula 1 team, literally starting from three people or something in one room. That scales really very, very quickly, so before long we were spending north of 20 million dollars a month. (…) Some of the big costs would be, I remember one month, we spent $7 million, I guess, on software, and we have no entry. So this is all at risk. What it clearly demonstrated to anybody who was evaluating not just our readiness, our understanding of what was needed to build a Formula 1 team, but it also demonstrated the desire as well because you don’t take these risks lightly.’

IMG’s Adam Kelly: sport is the antidote to AI (Financial Times)

‘I’m also excited to see what Apple does with Formula 1 (…). For these companies, key sports assets like World Wrestling Entertainment, Ultimate Fighting Championship and Formula 1 can drive year-round engagement. It’s something they can build through the calendar and build audiences around. It means they don’t have to keep taking bets on TV series and movies that may or may not hit. There’s more certainty. It protects against churn, and that year-round delivery is extremely valuable.’

Schedule for first Grand Prix of Arlington revealed (Racer)

‘The 2.73-mile, 14-turn street circuit formed around the Dallas Cowboys’ National Football League stadium and Texas Rangers’ Major League Baseball stadium will host the USF Championship’s USF2000 series, IndyCar’s Indy Nxt series, and entry-level touring car action with the SRO-sanctioned Toyota GR Cup series.’

Jensen joins McLaren for British brand’s 2027 Hypercar debut (WEC)

‘McLaren Racing has confirmed the identity of its first Hypercar recruit for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship, with Mikkel Jensen admitting to a feeling of ‘goosebumps’ at joining the iconic British brand.’

Rookie free practice set for Miami E-Prix weekend (Formula E)

‘Formula E will hold a Rookie Free Practice session on Friday 30th January, ahead of the upcoming Miami E-Prix. This is the fourth occasion that the championship has held the 40-minute session which aims to provide experienced racing talent from other motorsport championships valuable track time to discover the ground-breaking technology of Formula E’s Gen3 Evo car.’
