Charley Hull’s pursuit of her first career major title fell short yet again, losing the AIG Women’s Open in heartbreaking fashion.

Coming into this weekend, Hull wasn’t really considered a threat to win the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl – especially after carding a 1-over 73 in the opening round of the tournament. However, she surged up the leaderboard on moving day by shooting a 6-under 66.

Prior to the final round, Hull said she was going to play care-free golf. After all, she was still three shots behind 54-hole leader Miyu Yamashita.

“I haven’t got nothing to lose, have I? I don’t know,” Hull said. “Just going out there and enjoy playing golf. Kind of like playing golf with your mates. You just want to make birdies on every hole. That’s how it feels tomorrow.”

Hull started off her final round with a bogey-free front nine that included three birdies. It was the type start she needed to win the AIG Women’s Open.

Unfortunately for Hull, everything unraveled on the 16th hole. The former Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year settled for a bogey, dropping her back to 10-under par for the tournament. On the very next hole, she picked up yet another bogey.

Although she finished the tournament in second place, Hull truly cost herself a chance for glory with her performance down the stretch.

As you’d imagine, golf fans were devastated by this late-stage collapse from Hull.

“Not the result Charley Hull wants, but what a competitor! Her time will come,” one fan said.

“Bad luck Charley Hull. Just the last three holes cost her,” a second fan wrote.

“Sadly typical Charley Hull when potentially winning a major this finish,” a third fan commented.

“If like-ability won major championships, Charley Hull and Tommy Fleetwood would have ten a piece. Both incredibly enjoyable to watch but always seem to find one too good,” another fan declared.

This is the fourth time in Hull’s career that she had to settle for second place at a major championship.

Maybe, just maybe, Hull will break through and win a major in 2026.
