Emmerdale is gearing up for a big week next week, as the identity of Ray Walters’ killer will be revealed as part of a long series of flashback scenes, showcasing what the major suspects were up to leading up to the fatal moment.

Now details have given us some idea of what we can expect, while giving fans a new question to ponder.

In scenes set to air on Tuesday, 20 January, the focus is on Rhona Goskirk, who was previously worried that April Windsor had disappeared again due to Ray forcing her into drug dealing, so would have had motive to attack him.

The episode will showcase a compilation of flashback scenes, revealing what Rhona has been up to in the weeks leading up to Ray’s death.

After that, Ray stands over the dead body of his mum Celia Daniels, grabs a cloth and wipes the fingerprints off the knife in her back, grabs his red sports bag, and heads out.

Elsewhere, Rhona is in despair about April going missing, while Marlon is in bits too.

That’s when a shadowy figure looms behind her.

Could it be her secret accomplice in a plan to kill Ray?

Other flashback scenes will focus on Ray’s former love interest Laurel Thomas, who receives some potentially risky advice from Nicola King, on Paddy Kirk as he learns the truth about his father Bear Wolf, and Marlon himself as his worry turns to rage.

The identity of Ray’s killer will be revealed on the Thursday, but the flashbacks won’t stop there.

Friday’s episode will explore the aftermath, as one character has to grapple with the reality of getting rid of Ray’s corpse.
