Jack Miller has had a fairly inconsistent 2025 season thus far as he fights to stay on the MotoGP grid.

The Aussie has been the second-best Yamaha rider this season, sitting on 52 points as the action nears its return in Austria next weekend. Fabio Quartararo is 50 points ahead in ninth, having secured four pole positions, but Miller has displayed strong performances for Pramac.

The 30-year-old has proved to be a crucial addition to Yamaha’s rider line-up in 2025, helping to develop the V4 bike for 2026. Miller has provided excellent technical feedback and has considerably outperformed teammate Miguel Oliveira, who has struggled with injury and pace.

However, inconsistency has hampered Miller, having finished in the top 10 only four times. He has suffered four crashes in 2025, which have left him 14th in the standings after 12 races.

Miller is out of contract at the end of the season and is hoping to retain his seat at Pramac for 2026. Yamaha hope to see significant changes with the V4 bike, but the Aussie also wants to see a change to the rules.

Speaking via Speedweek, the 30-year-old is in favour of a restriction on tear-off visors. Like F1, MotoGP riders have multiple thin strips on their visors, which they can tear off one by one during a race when rubber, dirt or insects are kicked up.

Miller sees the danger of tear-off visors, as they can be thrown into the path of another rider and affect their race. Talking about why there was not an immediate ban on this, he said: “We asked about this a few years ago. There’s also the danger of hitting a bike that’s not accelerating properly.”

The Pramac rider also criticised his fellow riders for tearing off strips of their visors during the formation lap. Of course, it is paramount that they have the best possible visibility on the track, but Miller thinks this is a ‘pretty stupid’ thing to do.

“Riders try to remove tear-off visors before they take their starting position. They want to avoid it sticking under their bike. But the wind causes the visors to get pulled along, so it’s pretty stupid to do that. I don’t see any reason for it,” he said.

“Many riders start the race with three tear-off visors, only to tear one of them off on the opening lap.”

As the summer break nears its end, Pramac are close to deciding their 2026 rider line-up. Miller and Oliveira are battling it out to become Toprak Razgatlioglu’s teammate.

Oliveira is not meeting his performance clause, which could see Yamaha drop him before his contract expires in 2026. This gives Miller a major boost, but Mat Oxley thinks Pramac should sign Manu Gonzalez instead of the Aussie.

However, there could still be a way that the 30-year-old stays on the grid in 2026. Reports have suggested that Miller could replace Alex Rins at the factory Yamaha team and partner with Quartararo.

Rins could be dropped because of his injuries, having not fully recovered from a crash in 2023 that left him with a broken leg. Given his results, a move to the factory Yamaha team would be deserved for Miller, but only time will tell as to where he ends up in 2026.
