Two in-state rivals fighting for playoff positioning lock horns on Thursday night, as the Pittsburgh Penguins get set to host the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers and Penguins have been battling it out on the ice since the two franchises entered the league together in 1967. The proximity toward one another led to instant rivalry and hatred between fanbases. From legendary scraps during the regular season and playoffs, whenever Pittsburgh and Philadelphia meet up, it is always must-see television.
What is going to make Thursday night’s clash even more worthwhile is how both teams are fighting to get back into a playoff spot. Heading into the game, the Penguins and Flyers sit tied for fourth in the Metropolitan Division, one point back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Flyers are in the second half of a back-to-back, having visited the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night, while the Penguins are trying to snap a three-game losing skid.
This is the second meeting of the season between the two foes. Pittsburgh ran away with a 5-1 win in Philadelphia back on Dec. 1.
