Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s boxing debut went exactly as expected, but that was the problem.

From the moment the man affectionately known as ‘Big Nelson’ made the walk to the ring, it was clear he had a huge size advantage over former NRL player Jeremy Latimore.

Latimore had only had one fight in his career, a win over Alexander Ale, a fighter who is winless in all six of his pro fights.

And while Asofa-Solomona had to start somewhere, beating 44-year-old Latimore was almost cruel.

The first punch the 29-year-old landed was an uppercut, and that was all she wrote.

The bout didn’t last a minute, and while his punching power was impressive, the whole thing was a tad ridiculous.

You can watch the devastating KO in the player above.

As was the opening line in Asofa-Solomona’s post-fight interview.

“It feels great. Not happy with the performance, to be honest,” Asofa-Solomona said.

Ben Damon was taken aback, given the quick finish, before asking him who he wanted next.

Instead of calling out boxers, Asofa-Solomona used the chance to call out NRL players.

When asked who he wants next, he said, “Any NRL player can get it”.

And fans blasted the farce of a boxing fight.

“That was embarrassing,” one fan wrote following the short fight.

“He is making a mockery of the sport,” a second added.

“What a load of crap,” another said.

While others labelled it “a joke” and “pointless”.

In the lead-up to his fight against former NRL professional Jeremy Latimore, the former Melbourne Storm prop said the scariest part is the extra media attention.

“I got on the front foot with Melbourne – they were really good to me. They never got me to do media or anything. But now you’re at the forefront of everything, and I’ve gotta talk,” he told Boxing Scene.

“The thing with me is I just speak what’s on my mind and what’s really in my heart.

“You love it to some extent, but I’m not used to it being all on me, in terms of the media. I love the pressure; I love all the other stuff that comes with boxing inside the ring, but everything outside I’m still getting used to.”

If that is why he turned up in a black balaclava only he knows.

But everything from his entrance to the end was a bit ridiculous.
