Coronation Street has confirmed a big change for The Rovers next week, after Ben Driscoll suffers a sudden health crisis. The new landlord begs for a ceasefire between his partner Eva and mother Maggie, but will the bitter enemies be able to put their differences aside?
Eva and Maggie’s on-going feud has clearly been brewing well before the family arrived in Weatherfield. But what started out as snarky comments and disagreements quickly escalated over Christmas, as Maggie revealed Eva’s secret abortion to a pub full of guests.
The malicious plan backfired when Ben took Eva’s side and threw his mother out. However, he reluctantly let Maggie return to their home, on the condition that she would drop her vendetta.
In upcoming episodes, Eva plots to oust her mother-in-law from the business once and for all, by convincing her sister Leanne Battersby to buy Maggie’s shares. The matriarch cottons on to the scheme and a dramatic showdown ensues.

Ben refuses to be caught in the middle of another argument and attends to a beer delivery. When he returns home, he reveals he has been having heart palpitations and is rushed to hospital.
In Wednesday’s (21 January) episode, Ben is discharged and advised to avoid stress while he recovers. Unbeknownst to the doctors, Ben’s home life isn’t exactly peaceful and he can barely get through breakfast the next morning without witnessing another scrap.

Realising the damage they’re causing, Eva and Maggie agree to call a truce for the sake of Ben’s health. But will they truly be able to make peace, or will one strike while the other’s guard is down?
“Eva finds Maggie impossible to live with,” our Corrie source says. “Maggie criticises her every move – and has also unfairly given her a hard time for having an abortion when she was pregnant with Ben’s baby.
“It’s clear that the tensions at The Rovers are taking a major toll on Ben, though. Eva and Maggie agree that the heated dynamic needs to change – but can they make it work?”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
