Rebecca Ferguson is the star of one of Apple TV’s biggest sci-fi shows in Silo, but five years ago, she also starred in a massive sci-fi reboot that’s gaining attention once again on streaming. Ferguson stars alongside Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme) and Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight) in Dune, the 2021 epic based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Now titled Dune: Part One, the 2021 sci-fi film is streaming exclusively on HBO Max, where it’s one of the top 10 most popular movies in several countries. It’s also a massive success on VOD in countries where it isn’t streaming on HBO Max.

Dune was a massive success by nearly every metric that movies can be measured. The film debuted with a Certified Fresh 83% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a Verified Hot 90% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. It wrapped up a successful box office run after grossing $410 million globally against a $165 million budget, and it won six Oscars at the 2022 Academy Awards. It also spawned a sequel that, in the eyes of many, was even more of a success than the original. The franchise will return with a third movie later this year.

Denis Villeneuve wrote the script for Dune: Part One with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, and Villeneuve also directed the film. Villeneuve kicked off a run of grand sci-fi epics with Arrival before following it with Blade Runner 2049 and both Dune movies. After Dune: Part Three releases later this year, he will step away from the sci-fi franchise to direct the next James Bond movie. Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the script.

When Does ‘Dune: Part Three’ Come Out?

Dune: Part Three will be released in theaters on December 18, the same day as Avengers: Doomsday. Dune veterans like Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya will all be back in Dune: Part Three, formerly titled Dune: Messiah, along with newcomers like Robert Pattinson. Anya Taylor-Joy, who previously only featured for a few seconds in Dune: Part Two, will also step into a bigger role in the threequel. Jason Momoa will even return in Dune 3 as Duncan Idaho after seemingly perishing in Dune: Part One. Villeneuve has confirmed that Dune: Part Three will be his final installment in the Dune movie series.

Be sure to check out Dune: Part One on HBO Max, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
