Nestled behind its Barrhill Road house, The Golf Cave is the creation of Martyn Paxton and partner, Siobhan Ferguson.

The simulator sessions provide a highly realistic golfing experience, with accurate ball flight and course simulation, and the advanced technology can read swings and take into account course factors like the rough and the bunker.

The idea was something that Martyn had wanted to do for a while.

Having built a man cave at their previous house, the couple created the new bespoke cave, which had to be shipped over from Denmark.

And, incredibly, Martyn hadn’t initially planned to open the cave up to public bookings.

“It’s always something I’ve wanted to do because I’m a keen golfer,” Martyn told the Chronicle during an exclusive tour.

“We built a man cave at our last house, but it was nowhere near big enough.

“Initially, I only built it for myself, and I knew I wanted to make it big enough for a golf simulator.

“It took about six months to get it all sorted before we opened in November.

“The only help we really had was with the electrics. Other than that, Siobhan and myself did most of it.

“Two other boys came and helped me put the shell together.”

The facility also has an interactive dart board, a TV set up with various sports channels and soft and warm drinks available to purchase.

At the moment, the Golf Cave can be booked for groups of up to four people for a maximum of four hours, but Martyn admits there may be scope to extend this in certain circumstances.

The incredible technology has a real-life simulation of thousands of courses across the world, including the home of the Masters in Augusta.

And there are also local favourites like Troon and Prestwick on the system.

Martyn and Siobhan are both keen to ensure the cave is used by as wide a range of people as possible.

He added: “Initially it just started with a few of my mates round playing and then they told other people and then word spread and I had people messaging asking if they could come and book it for an hour or two.

“So that was when we got the idea to make it a booking system and use it as a business, because there’s definitely nothing like this around here and it’s perfect for golfers during the winter.

“But we want to stress that it’s not just for people who are keen golfers. You can come along with a few of your pals for an hour or two, have a few shots and a laugh and you don’t need to travel for miles.

“We know a lot of older people maybe loved golf, but can’t get about the courses now.

“We don’t want them to be put off by the fact it’s technology being used, so they can come along and see what it’s like and see that it’s not as scary as it looks.

“One of us tends to be here when it’s new people coming along, just so we can show them how things work. But when it’s faces we get to know, we’re happy to effectively leave them to it.

“We also want to open up the opportunities to young golfers who maybe haven’t got the means to go and travel and play a course or have a membership.”
