The Mustangs held a special send-off for Brysen Wright, who was recently named the 2026 NFL Flag Player of the Year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It was a big Thursday morning at Mandarin High School as students, teachers, and staff packed the gym for a pep rally celebrating one of their own.

The Mustangs held a special send-off for Brysen Wright, who was recently named the 2026 NFL Flag Player of the Year. Cheers echoed through the gym as Wright was recognized for his achievements, surrounded by classmates who have watched his journey unfold firsthand.

Wright will officially receive the prestigious honor at the NFL Honors ceremony on February 5th in San Francisco, California putting him on a national stage alongside some of the biggest names in football.

His rise to prominence began last summer when Wright went viral for a jaw-dropping, one-handed catch during the NFL Flag Football Championships. The highlight topped ESPN’s SportsCenter Top Plays, instantly turning heads across the sports world. Wright went on to lead the Jaguars Elite 14U team to a national flag football title.

Wright says he never imagined that one moment would help earn him the title of Flag Player of the Year.

Since then, his life has changed dramatically. He’s heard from several NFL stars including a call from his favorite receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. and now regularly gets stopped by fans asking for photos or handshakes.

“It’s a little different,” Wright said. “People coming up to me asking to take pictures or shaking my hand. It’s a blessing to be there and have it at a very young age. That’s what a lot of kids want, but knowing I’ve got to stay humble and keep going means a lot.”

Wright credits his family and his community for keeping him grounded.

“My family comes first,” he said. “They’ve been with me through this whole thing. I’m just trying to support my city and show young people that everything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard.”

From a packed high school gym to the bright lights of NFL Honors, Brysen Wright’s journey is just getting started.
