Australia’s largest American alligator has been saved from a potentially fatal stomach blockage thanks to the bravery of zookeepers.
Ivan, the 3.6m-long dominant male at the Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast of NSW, required urgent medical intervention after staff discovered he had a serious health issue.

The park said he was “critically unwell and fading fast” when keepers made the “dangerous decision to intervene”.
Ten staff members banded together to safely capture the massive reptile.

Once secured, Ivan was carefully sedated to allow veterinarians to perform a delicate procedure.
They were able to successfully flush his stomach and remove the dangerous blockage.
Ivan is making an incredible recovery following the medical intervention, reclaiming his title as the dominant alpha in the Gator Lagoon.
