Keiser Women’s Basketball Head Coach Matthew Strickland announced the hiring of Tyler Sobey as the assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season.

“I am extremely excited to add Coach Sobey to our Women’s Basketball coaching staff” said Strickland. “He has had tremendous success on the national stage coaching NAIA basketball, and he is a huge addition to our program. He is an elite recruiter and developer of student-athletes, and has a great understanding of what it takes to build a championship program. I am excited to have Tyler joining us as we hit the ground running here at Keiser University.”

Sobey joins the Seahawks following successful stints at LSU Shreveport and LSU Alexandria, where he helped lead both programs to national prominence at the NAIA level.

“Really looking forward to working with Coach Strickland again and the opportunity to build something special in West Palm Beach” said Sobey.

Most recently at LSU Shreveport, Sobey helped guide the Pilots to a 120-30 overall record. During his tenure, LSUS captured three straight Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championships (2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22) and three consecutive regular season titles (2020–21, 2021–22, 2022–23). He played a key role in recruiting and developing six NAIA All-Americans and was heavily involved in film breakdown, scouting, and in-game strategy. Off the court, he coordinated travel and housing logistics, assisted with academic support and eligibility processes, and contributed to the program’s digital presence by creating graphics and managing gear designs.

Prior to LSUS, Sobey spent two seasons at LSU Alexandria, helping the Generals to a 59-12 record. In 2017, LSUA finished as the NAIA National Runners-Up, also capturing the RRAC Tournament title. The team followed with a regular season championship in 2018. Sobey helped produce four NAIA All-Americans and oversaw an offense that led the nation in scoring at 95.4 points per game during the 2018–19 season. His responsibilities included video scouting, player development, eligibility coordination, and management of the program’s social media platforms.

Sobey earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from the University of Arkansas in 2017. He earned his master’s in educational leadership from LSU-Shreveport in 2020.
