Sonia Kruger’s dream renovation plans for her Mosman mansion have been slammed by her some of her new neighbours, who have sent letters of concern to the council.Â
The Gold Logie-winning presenter and her partner, former Channel Seven executive Craig McPherson, snapped up the Balmoral Slopes property at auction in March, paying $4.6 million over reserve for the deceased estate.
Described at the time as a “once in a lifetime opportunity with spectacular panoramas” the three-bedroom home ultimately sold for a staggering $16.1 million.

Now, Kruger and McPherson, who share ten-year-old daughter Maggie, have submitted plans for a $6.9 million redevelopment of the 743sqm hillside block.
The proposal seeks approval to demolish the existing dwelling and replace it with a sprawling four-level mansion complete with a lift and two swimming pools.
Plans by Koichi Takada Architects show the third level housing a master bedroom with an outdoor shower, along with a rear balcony, pool and garaging.
The level below would include three additional bedrooms with ensuites, plus a laundry and linen room.
Level two is earmarked for open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas, a butler’s pantry, outdoor dining space and another rear balcony with a pool.
The lowest level features a multipurpose room, while the landscaping, designed by Arcadia Design Group, includes a rock pool and a range of native plantings.Â
“The proposed swimming pools have been designed to blend into the design of the dwelling and background environment and include surrounding planter boxes for screening,” the development application stated, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
But neighbours were quick to raise concerns, with one objector writing:Â “It is clear following a review of the submitted plans and supporting documentationthat the proposed development does not comply with the applicable planning controls.”
They added: “The large roof terraces and elevated pools and the multi-level building proposed beyond the established rear building setback will impact cross views and privacyfor adjoining properties.”
Another neighbour argued the landscaping details in the DA had been overstated, while a third complained about the height of the external north and south-facing walls, which they said exceeded the current height control.Â
However, the proposal also has its supporters.
Urban planner Andrew Minto weighed in, writing: “It is my opinion that this proposal is worthy of the support of the council.”
With the application currently under assessment, Kruger is expected to learn the fate of her renovation plans on March 18.
Despite the planning dispute, the much-loved presenter remains firmly in demand, continuing her prominent role at Channel 7 while hosting the new season of The Voice and likely returning as co-host of Dancing with the Stars.
