Audi Revolut F1 Team has announced the launch of its Driver Development Programme, a significant strategic step as the manufacturer continues preparations for its 2026 entry into the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
The initiative will be directed by Audi motorsport legend Allan McNish, reinforcing the brand’s long term commitment to building a competitive and sustainable Formula 1 operation through early investment in talent both on and off the track.
The Audi Driver Development Programme has been positioned as a cornerstone of the team’s Formula 1 ambitions.
It is designed to identify, nurture, and develop the next generation of racing talent, with a structured pathway from karting and junior single seater categories through to the pinnacle of the sport.
The programme reflects Audi’s intent to build for the future rather than seek short term gains, embedding young drivers into the team’s culture at an early stage.
Beyond the cockpit, the initiative extends into the wider organisation. Audi Revolut F1 Team confirmed that it will also invest in young designers, engineers, and mechanics, underlining a holistic approach to team building as the manufacturer prepares for life in Formula 1.
The strategy aligns with Audi’s broader objective of creating a high performance environment grounded in technical excellence and long term continuity.
Comprehensive development pathway
Drivers selected for the programme will receive structured, world class training and mentorship, drawing on Audi’s decades of experience at the highest levels of international motorsport. The curriculum is tailored to modern Formula 1 demands, covering on track performance, driving and engineering development, human performance, and media and marketing responsibilities.
Participants will work closely with engineers and specialists from Audi Revolut F1 Team, ensuring early integration into the team’s operational culture and technical philosophy. The aim is to develop well rounded professionals capable of operating at the elite level required in Formula 1, rather than focusing solely on raw speed.
The appointment of McNish as Director is seen internally as a clear statement of intent. His career spans major successes as a driver with Audi, including multiple victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, followed by senior management roles within the brand’s motorsport structure. That experience is expected to play a central role in shaping the programme’s identity and standards.
“To be entrusted with finding the cornerstones of the future Audi Revolut F1 Team is a great honour and a responsibility I am very passionate about,” McNish said. “This brand is built on a history of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’, and that philosophy must apply to our young drivers as much as to our cars. We are not just looking for raw speed; we are looking for the resilience, intelligence, and team driven mindset that defines a future Audi champion. Our goal is to build a pathway that turns potential into precision and performance on the world stage. I am thrilled to begin this work and identify the first generation of talent to join this ambitious project.”
Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley described the programme as a key pillar of Audi’s long term Formula 1 strategy, stating: “Investing in the champions of tomorrow is a key pillar of our Formula 1 strategy. The Audi Driver Development Programme is a clear statement of our long term commitment to youth and our ambition to be competitive. With Allan McNish, we have a director who not only has an incredible track record in motorsport but also embodies the spirit and dedication of our operations. Under his leadership, this programme will be integral to our vision for 2030, our goal of building a winning team and shaping the future of Audi in Formula 1.”
