Joao Gomes was quick to show his support for Casemiro, as the central midfielder announced his imminent departure from Manchester United. Casemiro has been a loyal servant to the club since his transfer from Real Madrid in 2022, racking up 146 appearances to date.
However, the news broke on Thursday that the 33-year-old will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer. Sharing an emotional video on Instagram, Casemiro wrote: “Knowing when stages come to an end.
“Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever. Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal.

“Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”
As a result, a number of team-mates past and present took to the comments section to share their appreciation for Casemiro. Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo and Patrick Dorgu shared love heart emojis with the midfield maestro, while club captain Bruno Fernandes wrote: “Was a pleasure playing alongside you.”
However, in a surprising twist, Manchester United transfer target Gomes also liked the post. While his interaction most likely came as a showing of respect and admiration for his compatriot, Casemiro’s exit could pave the way for Gomes’ arrival in the north west.
As per reports, the Reds have been tracking the Wolves star since the summer as they look to improve their engine room, with scouting assessments coming back favourable. However, as cost could come as a decisive factor – especially with Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to tone down expenditure – a new plan could be utilised to bring the midfielder in.

The MEN reported earlier this week that a loan deal with an obligation to buy could be the most feasible option this month, with a permanent move in the summer more likely than midway through the current season.
However, United are not alone in their interest of the 24-year-old, with Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Crystal Palace all said to be monitoring Gomes’ situation at present. Liverpool, meanwhile, have reportedly decided not to pursue a move, despite a previous interest.
It comes as Wolves could look to cash in on a number of key players this month as they stare down the barrel of what seems like inevitable relegation from the Premier League. It’s been a tough season for Rob Edwards at Molineux, with Wolves sitting rock-bottom of the standings at present.
With just eight points to show for their efforts, the team have won just one game this season, secured five draws and suffered 16 losses. Despite this, Gomes has been a shining star in an otherwise lacklustre team.
Since making the move to the midlands from Flamengo in 2023, Gomes has racked up 114 appearances for Wolves across all competitions. He has also played a part in all but one of the club’s Premier League games this season thus far.
