Iontach D.C.

I for one welcome the Irish dominance that seems to have crept into all aspects of pop culture over the past couple of years.

There are few better rock bands on the planet than Fontaines D.C., who bring poetry and power in a way that has really resonated with Australian audiences in recent years.

They had two entries in last year’s Hottest 100 and back it up with this single, which they describe as such:

The feeling of hope a child can give is profound and moving, especially for young men like us. That sense of wanting to create a world for them to grow up in happily. It’s a feeling that fights against the cynicism that can often overtake us in the modern world. So we wanted to declare which side we were on – it really is amazing to be young. We are still free, and want to make that feeling spread. We want to protect it for the others around us, and maybe in doing that, can also help protect it for ourselves.

I’m not crying you’re crying etc.

He’s the newest member of triple j listener @_erin.hart_’s family. Named, of course, after Erin’s favourite Playlunch song.

Don’t even THINK about f**king with Keith the kitten’s trailer…

The people yearn for Playlunch

“If Playlunch doesn’t win there needs to be a royal commission.”

– Lachlan

“Here’s hoping everyone voting for Olivia Dean splits the votes and Keith can slip through the pack to its rightful spot at No. 1.”

– S

“Could we see Playlunch and Keith be the surprise packages of this countdown, with the song ranking highly in the Hottest 100 this year after already going viral on social media?”

– Adam

“I’m desperately hoping to see Keith by Playlunch high up on the Hottest 100. Such a good song and very Australian”

– Indigo

The seven-member band from Melbourne make their Hottest 100 debut at #73 with their triple j Like A Version.

It’s true the band have been hitting socials hard to campaign for their banger Keith.

Will it be enough to get them to #1?

Eight straight for G!

It’s widely acknowledged that the Queensland State of Origin side’s eight series wins in a row from 2006 to 2013 is one of the greatest dynasties in Australian history.

But G Flip fans may say otherwise, as the beloved artist today made their eighth consecutive appearance in the Hottest 100 with Bed On Fire landing at 74.

Surely G has a shot at disrupting The Living End’s 10-in-a-row record. With all due respect to those rockabilly lovin’ lads, they’d be a worthy record holder.

51m agoSat 24 Jan 2026 at 2:46amThe machine keeps on kicking

No surprise to hear Florence + The Machine back in the Hottest 100. This is her 15th appearance since debuting in 2009.

Everybody Scream is the title track from Florence’s fairly intense 2025 album. Florence Welch co-wrote the song with fellow icon Mitski, and it’s a profound take on the relationship between an artist and the act of performing.

Reviewing the album for Double J last year, Yumi Stynes said “Florence summons her hitherto hinted at witchy energy to go full-blown female sorceress fueled by pure rage.”

This is Florence’s first Hottest 100 appearance since 2022.

You can’t stop the Fish

Earlier today, FISHER returned to the Hottest 100 for the seventh year running when his track Blackberries with bbyclose made it in at #89.

This was his 11th appearance in the annual countdown. His first ever entry was in 2018, when his massive tune Losing It made it all the way to number two.

While seven in a row is epic, he’s got some way to go to beat The Living End, who made every countdown from 1998 to 2008.
