Strugglers Augsburg scored twice in six minutes late in the second half to come from a goal down and stun hosts Bayern Munich 2-1 in the Bavarian derby on Saturday, the league leaders’ first Bundesliga loss of the season.

The hosts, fresh from securing a Champions League knockout spot with Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise, took a 23rd-minute lead thanks to Hiroki Ito’s header but lacked any spark upfront as Augsburg struck in the 75th and 81st minutes through Arthur Chaves and Han-Noah Massengo to earn their first win in Munich for 11 years.

Vincent Kompany’s team are still 11 points clear at the top but second-placed Borussia Dortmund, on 39 points, could cut that gap with a win at Union Berlin later on Saturday. Augsburg climbed to 13th.

Bayern, unbeaten in their previous 27 league matches, a run stretching back to early March, never hit top speed but still dominated the first half, taking the lead through Ito’s header from a Michael Olise corner. It was Olise’s 14th assist in the league and his 22nd across all competitions this season.

Bayern, who travel to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday for their final Champions League match in the league phase, missed several more good chances through Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Lennart Karl before the visitors carved out their own best chance with the last kick of the first half when Robin Fellhauer rattled the crossbar with a powerful shot.

Augsburg found more and more space after the break as Bayern’s tempo dropped even further, and they tested the home keeper Jonas Urbig with a shot from Elvis Rexhbecaj and a fine free-kick from Alexis Claude-Maurice.

They got their deserved equaliser when Chaves scored with the back of his head from a corner. Six minutes later they completed their sensational comeback with Massengo tapping in from close range from a well-timed Dimitris Giannoulis cutback. Bayern hit the post with Olise’s shot in stoppage time.

RB Leipzig are fourth after a 3-0 win at bottom club Heidenheim. The visitors’ three goals came in the space of eight second-half minutes. Ridle Baku broke the deadlock with a fine strike into the top corner in the 62nd minute, before Antonio Nusa and David Raum quickly made sure of victory.

Bayer Leverkusen boosted their hopes of a top-four place as Lucas Vázquez scored the only goal at home to Werder Bremen. Third-placed Hoffenheim fought back to win at Eintracht Frankfurt with Max Moerstedt and Ozan Kabak both on target. Mainz climbed out of the bottom two with a 3-1 home win over Wolfsburg.

In Serie A, Como boosted their hopes of a first-ever European qualification place as they thrashed Torino 6-0. Anastasios Douvikas struck twice for Cesc Fàbregas’ side, who move up to fifth in the table. Fiorentina’s recent upturn in form stalled as they lost 2-1 at home to Cagliari, Marco Palestra scoring the decisive goal.

In the big match in Spain on Saturday night, Real Madrid will seek to go top at least overnight with victory at third-placed Villarreal. Barcelona, who lead by only one point after last weekend’s defeat at Real Sociedad, host Oviedo on Sunday. In France, Lens visit Marseille, looking to return to the top of Ligue 1 after Paris Saint-Germain won 1-0 at Auxerre on Friday night to go two points clear.
