Years from now, the trivia question will be: “Who won the first UFC fight of the Paramount era and how?”
The answer will be: Ty Miller – and he did so with a destructive first-round beatdown of Adam Fugitt.
The welterweight prelim bout kicked off UFC 324 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena and served as a breath of fresh air for the MMA diehards who had gone six weeks without a punch being thrown in the UFC cage. The stoppage came at 4:59 of Round 1.
Miller (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) didn’t put Fugitt (10-6 MMA, 2-4 UFC) down and out, but drawn-out punishment was enough for referee Chris Tognoni to step in.
Miller, 25, is a protege of former UFC welterweight Tim Means. The relationship is evident by the way he fights, particularly the use of his distance and his all-offense boxing.
Fugitt, 37, may have his UFC journey could come to an end with three losses in his most recent four.
