The NHL offseason never fails to deliver surprising storylines. Now, it’s been confirmed a former Colorado Avalanche teammate of Nathan MacKinnon is off to join one ex-teammate of Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers in an exotic destination.
Jimmy Vesey definitely knows his way around the NHL. At the end of the day, he’s been in it for a while now. The former third round pick in 2012 has played for several organizations, alongside top talents and household names in the business.
After a flurry of exits across the league, the left-winger—who last suited up for MacKinnon’s Avalanche—is headed for a new challenge. The destination? Switzerland, where he’ll join McDavid’s former teammate, Jesse Puljujarvi.
Vesey has now signed with Geneve-Servette Hockey Club of the National League—Swizterland’s top-tier division. Vesey will now play alongside Oilers‘ former first rounder, Puljujarvi, as both forwards signed two-year contracts with the Eagles. After being a member of six different NHL franchises, Vesey will don the garnet jersey for the upcoming seasons.
Jimmy Vesey #26 of the New York Rangers is awarded first star of the game during the third period against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden on February 07, 2024 in New York City. Background
Vesey was drafted with the 66th overall pick in the 2012 NHL entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. However, he didn’t play with the Preds, and was instead traded to the Buffalo Sabres. Vesey didn’t sign his entry-level contract until he joined the New York Rangers as a free agent in 2016. He’d make his career debut during the 2016-17 campaign, recording 27 points in 80 games that season.
After three years, he was traded back to Buffalo in 2019. What followed were four teams in the span of three seasons. Vesey played the 2019-20 with the Sabres, before signing as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020. In March 2021, Toronto placed him on waivers, where the Vancouver Canucks claimed the Boston-native.
Back to the NY Metro Area
Vesey would go on to join the New Jersey Devils as a free agent during the 2021 offseason. He played one season with the Devils before signing with the Rangers back in Manhattan. The Broadway Blueshirts signed him to a two-year extension in 2023, but finally traded him to the Avalanche ahead of the trade deadline in 2025.

To say Vesey’s NHL journey has been rocky would be an understatement. The forward had to earn every second of his ice time, but as he sets off for Switzerland, he carries with him an impressive pedigree: 626 games played, 101 goals, 93 assists, and a total of 194 points.
