THE Mustang Supercar raced by NASCAR driver Austin Cindric at the 2025 Adelaide Grand Final will be back on track this season, but in the hands of Cam Waters.
Waters has been diverted into chassis TR-28 following the end-of-year handover of his existing car which had been pre-sold to Scott Taylor.
Tickford Racing is in the process of building its first in-house chassis, but won’t have that up and running by next month’s Sydney 500.
Hence the return of TR-28, in which Waters actually won the first ever Gen3 Supercars race.
Waters raced that particular car throughout season 2023 and the opening round of ’24 before shifting into a new build (the now Taylor-owned TR-30).
TR-28 has had an interesting journey since then, cutting dirt speedway laps in Sydney and being at the centre of wildcards for Lochie Dalton, Rylan Gray and Cindric.
Tickford team manager Matty Roberts flagged intentions for its in-progress new chassis to open the floodgates for them to become a go-to supplier for other teams.
“The guys have started building it in-house, that’s the biggest key we’ve ticked off, but it certainly won’t be ready for Round 1,” he told V8 Sleuth.
“We’re not rushing that fabrication/build stage. Once it’s ready, we’ll debut it. We’re not sure when yet, but hopefully soon.
“Ultimately we probably want to be a supplier to the category as well.
“The Tickford Engineering side of the business, it’s growing and that’s what we’re exploring.
“Hopefully once it hits the track it will prove its worth and we can go on and market it.”
In addition to its main game pair of Waters and Thomas Randle, Tickford will again field four cars in the Dunlop Super2 Series.
