Aussie shoppers have raced to Aldi to pick up an item that has been resurrected for a limited time. Many were devastated when the supermarket quietly discontinued the Colway Spicy BBQ sauce.
The $1.85 500ml condiment was a staple for many and they were thrilled to see it back on shelves as part of Aldi’s Special Buys program. An Aldi spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle the item has been extremely popular since its return.
“Our Colway Spicy Barbecue Sauce has been a real hit in the middle aisle,” they said.

“The sauce is a Special Buy, so don’t miss your chance to spice things up before it’s all sizzled out.
“We’re always listening to what our customers want and take their feedback seriously when deciding which favourite products make a comeback or even join our everyday range.”
But, because it’s only back as part of the Special Buys, it means it won’t be around for long.
To combat this, some shoppers are bulk buying the sauce so they have enough to tide them over.

One posted a photo on social media showing they bought four bottles of the hard-to-find sauce.
Hopefully the two litres will last them for a while.
“Found these at Aldi the other day, sorry but I couldn’t buy just one,” they wrote.
Others agreed that they, too, had bought multiple bottles just in case they disappeared forever.
“I initially grabbed one and my wife was like, ‘Really? It’s not been available for ages,'” said one.
“I just bought 6 bottles, sorry everyone else, because my last bottle ran out last September and I hadn’t seen it since. It is my favourite,” added another.
“We bought up as there’s no guarantee if and when it will be back,” wrote a third.

What happened with Aldi’s Colway Spicy BBQ sauce
In August, shoppers thought their local was just out of stock, but eventually the supermarket conceded that it was officially going for good.
Shoppers were devastated, and some even wanted to start a campaign to bring it back.
“My kids loved this sauce and we went through a bottle every couple of weeks. So disappointed. Can we start a petition to get it back?” wrote one Aldi fan.

When it was discontinued in mid-last year, the German low-cost supermarket hinted it could make a comeback one day.
It has made good on that suggestion, and it will only be available through Special Buys.
These are items that drop into stores on Wednesdays or Saturdays, and are only around for a short time.
You’ve likely seen things like Aldi’s Slushie Machine as part of the Special Buys, but there are everyday items included, like sausages, chicken, and Tupperware.
