Maeva Squiban has announced herself to the cycling world in style over the last couple of days at the 2025 Tour de France Femmes. Relatively unknown just a few stages ago, back to back solo victories mean the 23-year-old Frenchwoman is suddenly a name on everyone’s lips. After soloing to the stage 6 success from the breakaway on Thursday afternoon, becoming just the second Frenchwoman to win a Tour de France Femmes stage and the first UAE Team ADQ rider, Squiban attacked from the flag drop on stage 7, although she admits it’s nothing something she ever really took seriously.
“I’m honestly lost for words — it all started as a joke. I attacked from kilometre zero, but that was actually meant as a joke,” Squiban explained with a smile in her post-stage interview afterwards. “After my win yesterday, I joked that I’d go on the attack right from the start. But sometimes jokes turn into reality.”
