A Brisbane man says he is pulling in six figures working for himself, revealing the surprising profession paying so well. The man shared he had been in the job for nearly 10 years and it required you to take initiative if you wanted to get work.
The Queenslander was stopped on the street by jobs app Getahead, which has gone viral online for asking people to reveal the nitty-gritty details about their jobs and what they earn. The man revealed he was a window cleaner.
“How much do I make? Anything between $120,000 to $150,000,” he said.

The median wage for Australians is $1,436 a week, or $74,672 a year before tax, putting him well above the typical wage earner.
The man said one of the biggest challenges of working for yourself was simply getting the jobs to start with.
“It’s quality control as well, making sure that everything is tip top and everything looks good and clean,” he said.

He said people needed to be willing to approach potential clients and ask for work if they wanted to be successful.
“My advice is if you want to start something like I did, don’t be afraid to go into any store and ask them have they got a window cleaner. What’s the worst they can say? No,” he said.
“They could say yes. Approach people. If you don’t approach people, you could sit and have no work.”
Window cleaning can be a lucrative endeavour, with another young Brisbane man sharing with the platform that he was earning a few thousand dollars a week running his own business focusing on home cleaning.
“It is very different depending on the weather. So maybe some weeks I’ll make a few thousand and other weeks a lot more than that. It really depends,” he said.
The man said he started off his business by knocking on doors, armed with a few squeegees and brushes from Woolworths.
“It’s now big and we’re employing people and it’s turned into something brilliant,” he said.
Another window cleaner claimed he was earning $2,000 a week and had started up his business after he lost his job at McDonald’s.
“I wasn’t coming to some of the shifts because I was busy with school work and that. I had to find a new way to make money without slaving away,” he said.
The salary you can earn as a window cleaner can vary hugely and can be much higher for those who run their own business.
