Evangeline Lilly has given fans insight into her journey towards healing the damage from her traumatic brain injury late last year,

Best known for starring stints in Lost, Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man franchise and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Lilly, 46, revealed to fans via Instagram that she’d been working closely with a specialist to “restore her brain health”.

She revealed she has “spent a lot of money getting evaluated and getting targeted, expert advice” after discovering she had suffered brain damage.

She went on to acknowledge that “not everyone can afford” the process, proceeding to list the veritable cocktail of supplements she’d begun taking on the advice of her specialist.

While she said that she hoped it might help those in a similar position who could not afford her level of care, she prefaced this by saying the advice she’d received “may not be the exact right path for everyone.”

“But in the absence of affordable medical care in this country, I am sharing some of the advice [given] to me.”

The actress previously revealed to fans that she’d sustained the traumatic brain injury during a beach trip; fainting, hitting a boulder face-first and “smashing her face open” in the process.

What was initially deemed a concussion was soon revealed to be far more serious.

A later scan showed that “almost every area” in her brain was functioning at decreased capacity as a result of the incident.

Speaking candidly about the damage caused by the accident on her personal Substack, she delved into the details through a lengthy post entitled “I Fainted at the Beach.”

“So, I do have brain damage from the TBI, traumatic brain injury,” the actress revealed.

“But now my job is to get to the bottom of that with the doctors, embark on the hard work of fixing it, which I don’t look forward to because I feel like hard work is all I do,” she said.

She revealed that there had been a silver lining to the experience; with the injury and resulting cognitive decline forcing her to “slow down” and end the year in a more “restful” way.

Lilly announced her retirement from acting in 2024, with her last role being superhero Hope van Dyne, in the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania.

She told Variety in a statement in June that she was “not actively pursuing any work in the industry” and was now “devoting my time to my humanitarian work and my writing.”
