Deadpool 4 is seemingly in development. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same after the debut of Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. After two successful solo films at Fox, the actor joined the Marvel shared universe with one of the MCU’s biggest releases to date. Deadpool & Wolverine has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
So far, Marvel has yet to confirm where Deadpool will appear next, as Reynolds was not one of the actors confirmed for the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. However, Wade Wilson’s third solo movie showed how important the Deadpool movie franchise is to the larger MCU, and due to its box office success, it would make sense to keep it going. That appears to be the plan.
According to a new report from Puck, Ryan Reynolds is “wisely focused” on his next Deadpool movie. The report does not provide any story details for Reynolds’ Deadpool 4, only mentioning how the project would allow the actor to come back as the character the audience loves him the most for. At this time, Reynolds and Marvel have not commented on Deadpool 4’s status.

Deadpool & Wolverine ended its global box office run with $1.3 billion, easily passing Joker’s $1.08 billion to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The MCU’s first Deadpool movie earned the studio hundreds of millions in profit, showing not only the strength of the two Marvel characters but how the MCU could further pursue R-rated and TV-MA content.
Speaking to ExtraTV on November 15, 2024, Ryan Reynolds addressed Deadpool 4’s chances. According to the actor, he “would love that,” but Reynolds explained how a break was necessary, as the movie engulfed his whole life, and the star wanted more time with his kids. To that end, Deadpool & Wolverine was released on July 26, 2024, one and a half years ago.
On December 14, 2024, Reynolds talked to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed his surprising ideas for Deadpool’s next MCU project. According to the actor, “None of them center on Deadpool,” who would take on a supporting role instead. Deadpool 4, or whatever form the film takes, would likely bring back Hugh Jackman, as Reynolds claimed he “would always want Deadpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way.”
At this time, neither Reynolds’ Deadpool nor Jackman’s Wolverine has been announced for Avengers: Doomsday. That is surprising, as not only was Deadpool & Wolverine a huge hit, but the Marvel film is bringing back several stars from Fox’s X-Men movies, so the two actors would fit right in. Perhaps their MCU return is being saved for Reynolds’ Deadpool 4.
