THE Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic is set to continue its mantle as the premium Historic event on the Australian motorsport calendar this year with nearly 300 entries already received for this March’s event at the famous Grand Prix Circuit.

The Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic will be held on March 13-15 with tickets on sale here online now.

With up to 10 categories set to compete, the event will again kick off the Victorian Historic Racing Register’s (VHRR) season of Historic events with a broad range of local and international cars, more of which will be confirmed in upcoming weeks.

The Classic Sports Cars (Group S) field is booming with a whopping 57 entries received and Group N Historic Touring Cars continue to prove strong with 39 entries already received.

The Heritage Touring Cars line-up of Group A, Group C, Super Tourers and early five-litre V8s is already at 29 cars and counting.

Andrew Miedecke has confirmed to V8 Sleuth he’ll be racing both his March Formula Atlantic and Yokohama Ford Sierra RS500 in Heritage Touring Cars at the event.

The event, which celebrates Penrite’s 100th anniversary, has also fielded strong entries across Regularity, Groups J, K, L and Formula Vee and Groups P, Q, R Sports and Racing.

M&O Sports and Racing and Formula Ford will also be part of the event, as will supersprints for ex-V8 Supercars and five-litre touring cars.

Marcos Ambrose’s last Supercar race car – an ex-DJR Team Penske Falcon FG X – will feature in the V8 supersprint in the hands of Chris Stillwell.

VHRR Vice-President and Phillip Island Classic Director Mike Herlihy says the recent cancellation of the Historic Sandown event in November was a major disappointment to the club, but it’s business as usual at the VHRR for its Phillip Island event and ever-growing Winton Festival of Speed in July.

“Losing the Sandown event is not the ideal situation, but the move of the Supercars event to the date we had originally booked left us in a tough position,” he says.

“The club considers it has made a very responsible decision for the good of Historic motorsport by not selecting another date and causing a clash with other Historic events. We’re already pressing on with plans for the return of Historic Sandown in 2027.IsHistoric HISTORIC

“Phillip Island’s Penrite 100 Classic is shaping up really well with a great cross section of eras, makes and models being celebrated. The strong entry numbers clearly underline the status of the event as one that competitors don’t want to miss.”
