One of Team Canada’s goalies is dealing with an injury ahead of the Winter Olympics.
Logan Thompson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery announced Thursday. Thompson will not dress for Washington’s game against the Detroit Red Wings, with Clay Stevenson recalled from the AHL to back up Charlie Lindgren.
Carbery said Thompson was injured when he was hit in the mask by a puck in Tuesday’s loss to the Seattle Kraken, although he did stay in that game.
Thompson, a Calgary native, is one of three goalies set to represent Canada at the Milano-Cortina Olympics next month. Jordan Binnington and Darcy Kuemper are the others.
Thompson has an 18-16-4 record with a .912 save percentage and two shutouts this season.
The NHL season will pause for the Olympics after games on Feb. 5. Team Canada opens the tournament on Feb. 12 against Czechia.
