Family, friends and the AFL faithful around the NT are remembering the life and legacy of Walter “Benny” Lew Fatt.

Benny was a stalwart of the Nightcliff Tigers and played a central role in their premierships in the 1956/57, 1960/61 and 1964/65 seasons.

He was inducted into the AFLNT Hall of Fame in 2012 and his services to the community were recognised with an Order of Australia Medal in 2019.

Nightcliff Tigers President Mark Dodge remembers Benny as, “a smile larger than life. He was the patriarch of the [Nightcliff Tiger] Family….That big solid handshake, the glint in the eye..

One of my fondest memories was in the 2018/19 premiership year, the drought breaker. He was able to present that cup to our team captain Nathan Brown. We had a bit of dust in our eyes last night, talking about that.”

ABC Reporter Miranda Tetlow recorded this interview with Benny Lew Fatt about his family history back in 2013.
