Five people have been injured, including a 17-month-old toddler, after a gas explosion ripped through a popular holiday park on NSW’s south coast.
The blast occurred at the BIG 4 Ingenia Holiday Park at Lake Conjola at 7.30am on Saturday morning, turning what should have been a peaceful breakfast barbecue into a scene of chaos and destruction.
“I was laying in bed and then all of a sudden we heard a big massive bang. Everything just shook. It was pretty intense, pretty scary,” witness Luke Wright said.

“We just heard a baby crying, so we all scattered up there.
“What I heard is that they were prepping breakfast up and they were sitting down having their coffees and then all of a sudden the barbecue has gone bang.”

The force of the explosion threw chairs metres from their tables with besser block bricks left scattered and the barbecue broken in pieces.
Multiple ambulances responded to the emergency.
A man in his 30s suffered facial injuries and was flown to Wollongong Hospital while a woman also in her 30s was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital with abdominal injuries.
Two young children, including the 17-month-old toddler, suffered minor injuries.
A fifth person was treated at the scene.
SafeWork NSW is now on site, with investigators zeroing in on what caused the blast and whether the holiday cook-up was safe to fire up in the first place.

The campground, which is extremely popular with young families, issued a statement.
“Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our guests. We are currently focused on supporting the family involved,” the park said.
Those injured remain in hospital in a stable condition.
Fire and Rescue NSW has been contacted for comment.
